BAFTA and MOBO award-winning hip-hop artist, writer, poet and historian Akala comes to the Temporary Theatre for an intimate night of spoken word. Akala fuses a unique rap, rock, electro-punk sound with fierce lyrical storytelling and over the last few years has gained a reputation as one of the most dynamic talents in the UK.
He has toured with the likes of Jay Z, MIA, Christina Aguilera and Damon Albarn and has featured on numerous TV programmes across Channel 4, ITV2, MTV, Sky Arts and the BBC. In 2009, Akala launched the The Hip-Hop Shakespeare Company, a music theatre production company that explores the social, cultural and linguistic parallels between the works of William Shakespeare and that of the modern-day rapper.
On the night, Akala will be presenting an exclusive sneak preview of his upcoming spoken word audiobook EP, A Conversation with Freedom.
