The Sacconi Quartet joined percussion virtuoso Joby Burgess in performing great works by contemporary composers, Golijov and Rautavaara. The second half is entirely dedicated to Errollyn Wallen, who became the first black woman to perform at The Proms. And tonight, she’ll be accompanied by the Arensky Chamber Orchestra.
The programme:
- Goljov: Mariel
- Rautavaara: String Quintet No 2, Op 12 Les Cieux Inconnues
- Errollyn Wallen: Dervish for cello and piano (2001); The Errollyn Wallen Songbook (2006); Cello Concerto (2007) (London premiere)
Stalls seating.
