Good Chance's Encampment: What They Took With Them Storytelling Workshop

Make a story from the objects and memories you’d take with you if you had to flee

Having set up a temporary theatre of hope in the Calais refugee camp, Good Chance are delighted to be pitching their Dome on Festival Terrace at the Southbank Centre in London this summer. On Valentine's Day this year, 36 actors, six directors and seven writers came together to perform Moving Stories at the National Theatre, in support of the work of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The performance culminated with a reading of Jenifer Toksvig’s prose poem What They Took With Them. This poem was inspired by the things people choose to take with them as they flee their homes. In this workshop, storytellers Jenifer Toksvig and Emma Manton take you through making an inventory of the things you would take with you. They then teach you how those things – whether concrete or abstract, practical or sentimental – can form the materials from which stories are made. Runtime: 4:00pm-5:00pm. This event is free and entry is on a first come first served basis, so it can't be guaranteed. We need your card details to store the event information in "My Tickets", but rest assured, we won't charge you a penny.
