Hangmen

What's the second-best hangman in England to do on the day they've abolished hanging?

This a big time for British theatre. Martin McDonagh, the acclaimed writer and director of In Bruges and Seven Psycopaths, is returning to the London stage for the first time in over 10 years. Collaborating with director Matthew Dunster - nominated for the Olivier award for "Best Director" for his work on the piece, his new play is called Hangmen and is imprinted with the same brand of brilliant black comedy that characterised his films. Genuinely – this is hilarious. The play tells the story of the second best executioner in England on the day in 1965 that Britain abolished capital punishment. In his small pub in Oldham, Harry is something of a local celeb. Amongst the reporters and pub regulars that are dying to hear his reaction to the news, a peculiar stranger lurks, with a very different motive for his visit. You'd be mad to miss McDonagh's homecoming play. Charles Wyndham always dreamed of building a theatre of his own. In 1900, having won over the admiration of a patron and the financial confidence of friends, he realised his dream and opened the Wyndham's Theatre. Now, the Wyndham's is one of the most reputable venues in London's West End. Expect quality shows that are original, inventive and every bit as exciting as the West End should be. Nominated for Best New Play in the Evening Standard Awards and for the "Virgin Atlantic Best New Play" Olivier. ★★★★★ – The Guardian ★★★★★ – The Daily Telegraph ★★★★★ – The Sunday Times ★★★★★ – The Independent ★★★★☆ – Evening Standard ★★★★☆ – The Stage ★★★★☆ – Whats On Stage ★★★★☆ – West End Frame ★★★★☆ – Daily Mail Suitable for ages 14 and above.
