Time Out says
When you think of Peru, what comes to mind? If it’s Machu Picchu, the famed abandoned Incan city that you always said you’d visit someday, then you’re probably not alone. But what else? That 2000 Disney film, ‘The Emperor’s New Groove’? (A real gem, by the way). Maybe, it’s time you looked a little closer. Peru is a fascinating country with a long and complex history, beginning with its earliest inhabitants from around 2500 BC. This year is Peru’s bicentennial year of independence, and to celebrate, the British Museum is putting on a major exhibition that explores the history, cultural achievements and beliefs of the different peoples who called this place home. Which, by the way, happens to be one of the most challenging environments on the planet, with dry deserts and high altitudes. You’ll get to see extraordinary pieces borrowed from Peru, large-scale photography, videos of iconic sites like the Nasca geoglyphs, and learn about how they developed their unique approaches to economy, time, agriculture and power. And all for £10? A steal!
