Liliom

Expressionistic masterpiece about two broken souls who find each other

"What kind of world creates these two broken people?" This is the question posed in the Torchlight Collective's reimagining of the Hungarian classic Liliom, which served as the source story for the musical Carousel. The play unfolds against a semi-immersive fairground backdrop. A turbulent romance kindles between Liliom, the eponymous protagonist and Julie, a young serving girl. Themes of marginalisation, domestic abuse and the value of human life are explored through their relationship. The Torchlight Collective believe that theatre should inspire us to reflect on ourselves and the world around us. Let's see how they pull it off. Please arrive on time as latecomers may not be admitted. Unfortunately there is no wheelchair access at this venue.
