Literary Speed Dating In The West End

Time to read between the lines

The beauty of speed dating lies in its no-nonsense approach. You take an equal number of single girls and guys, put them in a room and give them a few minutes to chat with every other member of the opposite sex. But perhaps you need someone a little more on your wavelength. Someone a little more literary perhaps. Prepared to defend Buckowski's misogyny while praising the economy of phrase of George Eliot? Or challenging contemporary views of JK Rowling while titillating with Anais Nin? The method stays the same. Roughly four minutes to chat to each person before moving on to the next but this time let's talk books. There's even a section on your reminder sheet – the piece of paper you mark every one you meet and tick whether they are a 'match', 'friend' or 'best not' – where you can mark what books were recommended and whether they be read or binned. Whatever happens this promises to be a really fun night of bibliographical brilliance or short story shenanigans (four minutes remember) and you'll be part of a historical movement.
