London's Chinese New Year

Its time to party: 2016 is the Year Of The Monkey

Chinese New Year in London is one of the most spectacular in the world, with over 300,000 people taking part in the celebrations. Activities will be spread across Chinatown, Leicester Square, Shaftesbury Avenue and Trafalgar Square on the 14 February – making it a double date with Valentine's Day – as 2016 welcomes in the Year Of The Monkey. Festivities begin at 10am with a parade. Starting on Duncannon Street, it'll make its way along Charing Cross Road and Shaftesbury Avenue, before the official opening ceremony takes place in Trafalgar Square. That's when the celebrations really kick off: with dragon dancing, music and performances and a Chinatown that is positively thronging. Expect fun and firecrackers on and around Gerrard Street, Lisle Street and Shaftesbury Avenue where there are impromptu parties, food stalls and lion dancing. Happy new year!
