Jazz may have been born in New Orleans, and matured in the melting pot of the United States, but its European offshoots are thriving. Norway has developed one of the world’s most distinctive and thriving jazz scenes and central to that success is the City of Trondheim. Trondheim has a thriving jazz festival, an adventurous jazz orchestra and one of the most influential jazz conservatories in the world – the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Graduates from this programme include Tord Gustavson, Nils Petter Molvaer and Trygve Seim. Among these renowned musicians is Arve Henriksen whose unique almost 'flute-like' sound on the trumpet and his astonishing creativity make him one of the most inspiring jazz artists working today.
