Opera Vera presents Mozart's best-loved choral work, accompanied by period instruments in the stunning seventeenth-century candlelit surroundings of St Paul's Church, Covent Garden. Described by theartsdesk.com as 'terrifically exciting', Opera Vera is a group of young professional musicians who have recently performed Mozart's 'Don Giovanni' and 'Le Nozze di Figaro' to critical acclaim. The concert, conducted by Oliver-John Ruthven, also features:
- Bach 'Ich habe genug' Cantata BWV 82 (baritone: Peter Brooke)
- Mozart 'Come Scoglio' and 'Soave il vento': aria and trio from 'Cosi fan Tutte' (soprano: Susan Jiwey)
- 120 mins, including interval (with bar)
The Requiem Mass in D minor, to give it its full name, is a stunning piece of work. Composed in Vienna in 1791, it was unfinished at the time of Mozart’s death and had to be completed by Franz Xaver Süssmayr a year later. Listen in wonder as the composer’s best-loved choral work is performed in a beautiful candlelit setting.
