With Vasily Petrenko conducting and Till Fellner on the piano, this is a real treat for all classical music lovers. Plagued by increasing physical frailty and emotional problems so severe he sought advice from Sigmund Freud, Mahler set to work on his apocalyptic Tenth Symphony. He only got as far as the devastating opening movement, but in 1966 musicologist Deryck Cooke produced a realisation of the remainder from Mahler’s sketches that created a musical sensation.
