Philharmonia Orchestra: Gatti Conducts Beethoven

Acclaimed Russian pianist Arcadi Volodos, "A keyboard poet beyond compare" (The Independent), performs Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3, famous for its mesmerising slow movement where solo piano takes centre stage right from the opening's first tranquil chords. Conducted this evening by Daniele Gatti, one of the most prestigious conductors in the world, Schumann’s Second Symphony is moody and rebellious, written against the backdrop of personal crisis and worsening health.
