Beginning with Shostakovich's joyous Festive Overture, the orchestra then speeds into Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto. Initially deemed 'unplayable', the music dazzles with unexpected twists and turns in the hands of virtuoso violinist Gil Shaham. In the second half, Prokofiev's Fifth Symphony is filled with brilliant solos, ominous percussion and triumphant melodies.
