When it comes to film festivals, Cannes and Sundance are just so…mainstream. Raindance, on the other hand, isn't afraid to look underground. The film festival, now in its 23rd year, has a strong legacy of celebrating and supporting independent, new and alternative filmmakers. Raindance-premiered hits include Memento, Old Boy and The Blair Witch Project amongst others.
With over 100 feature films and over 150 short films to be screened in this year's run, we should be expecting more of the same.
What do you think happened in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947? The US government have put out four varying explanations. A lot of people have a different theory: the Roswell UFO conspiracy theory. Cosmic Whistleblowers – world premiering at Raindance – follows filmmaker Simon Sharman's personal journey into the world of UFOs and government coverups. Featuring interviews with witnesses, ex-military personnel and key figures in the case, evidence and truth are twisted by both sides of the debate in this intrepid documentary. In the light of recent government misdeeds, perhaps foul play in Roswell in 1947 isn't too crazy.
