Shuffle Festival is an annual event which aims to build a more integrated community presence through art, comedy, music, food and film. Taking place in the Lodge Cinema, tonight's screening is of the 2007 London-based drama Brick Lane.
Adapted from Monica Ali's 2003 best-seller, Brick Lane follows a beautiful young Bangladeshi woman, Nazneen, as she arrives in 1980s London, leaving behind her beloved sister and home, for an arranged marriage and a new life. Trapped within the four walls of her flat in East London, and in a loveless marriage with the middle aged Chanu, she fears her soul is quietly dying. This film is followed by Short Film finalists from the the Shuffle Film Festival competition.
