Sunny Afternoon

LOA winner: Best New Musical; Best Actor; Outstanding Achievement In Music

When England won the World Cup in '66, Wembley resonated to 100,000 fans singing "Sunny Afternoon". How did The Kinks' feel-good anthem come to attain such recognition? And how did the quintessential English band reach such heady heads for that matter? Sunny Afternoon the musical deftly answers those questions. Crammed with classic Kinks tracks, it captures the riotous mood of the '60s and recounts the fascinating tale of a band made good. It's the winner of the 2015 Olivier Award for Best New Musical but also won Oliviers for Best Actor (John Dagliesh), Best Supporting Actor (George Maguire) and Outstanding Achievement in Music (Ray Davies). The Harold Pinter Theatre opened in 1881 as the Royal Comedy Theatre. The range of work at the Theatre has been far reaching – from musical comedies to revival and experimental theatre – including hugely successful shows such as Savages, starring Paul Scofield in 1973, and The Rocky Horror Show making its West End debut in 1979. ★★★★★ – The Daily Telegraph ★★★★★ – Mail On Sunday ★★★★★ – Financial Times ★★★★★ – Sunday Express ★★★★★ – Daily Mail Runtime: 2 hours 45 minutes.
