The most acclaimed new play of the decade has transferred from Wyndham's Theatre to the Duke Of York's Theatre. Now 80 years old, Andre was once a tap dancer. He lives with his daughter Anne and her husband Antoine. Or was he an engineer whose daughter Anne lives in London with her new lover, Pierre? The thing is, he's still wearing his pyjamas and he can't find his watch…he's starting to wonder if he's losing control. Christopher Hampton's crisp and witty translation of Le Père (the winner of the 2014 Moliere Award for Best Play, France's highest theatrical honour) has dazzled audiences and critics alike, receiving an unprecedented eight five-star reviews from national newspapers and earning Cranham a nomination for the "Best Actor" Olivier. With Kenneth Cranham and Claire Skinner delivering standout performances, you should be willing to do anything to get the chance to see this. Nominated for the "Virgin Atlantic Best New Play" Olivier. The Duke Of York's Theatre has been around for some time: it opened in 1892 as the Trafalgar Square Theatre, and was where Puccini first saw Madame Butterfly. It shortened its name to the Trafalgar Theatre in 1894, before becoming the Duke Of York's a year later to honour the future King George V. It was Grade II listed by English Heritage in September 1960.
