The Luna Cinema At Alexandra Palace: Birdman

The expected wickedness of knowing everything

It's summertime people and this could only mean one thing – all hail open air cinema. Al fresco screening magicians The Luna Cinema are here to turn your summer evenings into unforgettable memories. Taking over the best venues in the capital they put on movies that will make you laugh, cry, jump and scream. Set in Alexandrea Palace tonight's offering is the winner of Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography at 2014’s Oscars, Birdman. Birdman, or The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance, is a black comedy that tell the story of a former cinema superhero Riggan Thomson (Michael Keaton). Riggan is mounting an ambitious Broadway production, with the help of his best friend and lawyer Jake (Zach Galifianakis), which he hopes will breathe new life into his stagnant career. As the opening night approaches, a castmate is injured, forcing Riggan to hire an actor (Edward Norton) who is guaranteed to shake things up; and shake things up he does. The result is an intellectually challenging and visually stunning film that tests the limits of cinema and questions the meaning of acting in the modern age. Pretty deep, but also pretty dam good. "As soon as it ends, you'll be dying to fly with it again." – Time Out "Birdman is everything you want movies to be: vital, challenging, intellectually alive, visually stunning, emotionally affecting." – Empire Certificate: 15. Valid ID required. Runtime: 1 hour 59 minutes. Best available seating.
