The Luna Cinema At Crystal Palace Park: Labyrinth

Quite frankly this must be on everyone's film list

It's summertime people and this could only mean one thing – all hail open air cinema. Al fresco screening magicians The Luna Cinema are here to turn your summer evenings into unforgettable memories. Taking over the best venues in the capital they put on movies that will make you laugh, cry, jump and scream. Tonight's screening showcases Jim Henson's 1986 fantasy, Labyrinth. Blending hints of Alice In Wonderland and Wizard of Oz with the unmistakably spunky puppetry of Jim Henson, Labyrinth has achieved the status of cult nostalgia for a whole generation. Interestingly, the film was a box office flop at the time, struggling to recoup half of its then massive $25m budget. But like all great cult films of the 80s, it has a slow-burner, gradually working its way into all our hearts. Labyrinth was helped, in no little part, from Trevor Jones’ score, the surreal touches introduced to the script by Monty Python’s Terry Jones, and of course David Bowie’s rendition Goblin King Jareth. Come indulge yourself, or introduce a new generation to what family films were like before 3D and CGI. "Labyrinth packs enough surprises to captivate an audience of children and provides enough wisecracking to keep adults laughing." – TV Guide "With their technical astonishments, Director Henson and Executive Producer Lucas have been faithful to the pioneering Disney spirit." – Time Certificate: PG. Runtime: 1 hour 41 minutes. Best available seating.
