The Newport Jazz Festival: The 1950s

Jazz hands at the ready for a celebration of a seminal festival

Has it really been 60 years since Newport Jazz Festival began? Apparently so. To celebrate this milestone, the festival's early years will be marked with a special programme of live music. Pete Long's Echoes of Ellington Orchestra will replicate Duke's Ellington 1956 appearance, which has since entered jazz folklore. Music from the 1959 flick Jazz On A Summer's Day will also feature amidst a packed programme that recreates the halcyon days of the '50s. Please arrive on time as latecomers may not be admitted.
