The Play's The Thing: Pete Churchill World Premiere

Music feast for an unforgettable night

This Shakespeare-themed concert will see the jazz orchestra perform Duke Ellington’s phenomenal suite, Such Sweet Thunder, which is based on A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The National Youth Chamber Choir will feature Shakespearean works including Vaughan Williams’ Three Shakepeare Songs, Charles Woods’ Full Fathom Five and George Shearing’s Songs And Sonnets. The centrepiece of the concert will be the world premiere of a Festival commission from Pete Churchill – a new work for choir and big band. Two of the UK’s leading ensembles for young musicians will be performing together for the first time. This collaboration is taking place in the historic Southwark Cathedral. The Cathedral has been a site of worship for over one thousand years and was possibly frequented by Shakespeare himself while he was resident in the area of Southwark. Please arrive on time as latecomers may not be admitted. If you want to be seated together, book your tickets under the same account.
