Vault Festival 2016: X+Y

Have you ever looked up into the sky and wondered?

London’s biggest arts festival is returning: make your way underground for six weeks of creativity, innovation and chaos at Vault Festival. With more than 100 different shows spread across eight incredible venues, you're not going to find anything else like it above or below ground any time soon. X+Y is a story of contrasting world views. X (Marcus Du Sautoy) lives life through mathematical abstraction, lonely but happily confined to a cube he never leaves. Y (Victoria Gould), has spent her life exploring their known universe, hoping that she'll finally find an ‘out’ and an answer to the universal question: Is there more than this? When they meet they begin to argue about the shape of the world they live in and from here the plot unfolds into a story of mathematics, theatre and friendship. What du Sautoy and Gould have produced, under the direction of Dermot Keaney, isn't abstract physical theatre. The dialogue is funny and sharp, there's a story being told which, with a couple of twists, explores the common ground of maths and theatre, and the friendship between two very different people. The show takes place in the Pit space. Running time is approximately 1 hour 10 minutes.
